AI in Product Management

Digital Product

AI is not here to replace us: it is here to amplify our capacity as product creators.

With the start of the new season of Runroom LAB, we once again filled our offices (and for the first time also the streaming) with a topic we are passionate about: artificial intelligence applied to digital products. This time, we had Manu López, VP of Product at companies like Lookiero and Colvin, and former Runroomer, to explore how AI is transforming the way we work, think, and lead in the role of Product Manager.

From his experience, Manu shared a practical and realistic view on how to integrate AI into product processes, how to redefine future teams, and what it means to be a Product Manager fluent in AI.

The emergence of AI in digital products

The starting point was clear: “It's no longer about whether we should use AI, but how we use it.”
In an environment where tools evolve at breakneck speed, AI has gone from being an experiment to an essential tool for maintaining competitiveness.

Manu recounted how in the early days, building an AI-based functionality required months of work between data scientists and data engineers. Discovery and Delivery were measured in semesters. Today, thanks to generative models and no-code tools, creating an MVP or a landing page can take just a few minutes. Yes, but...

However, he warned: “It's not about replacing the work of teams, but redefining it.
The teams of the future, in his vision, will be smaller, multidisciplinary, and supported by intelligent agents. People capable of learning quickly, connecting dots between technology, business, and user experience. Fewer people, yes, but more versatile.

From fear to habit: learning to live with AI

During his talk, Manu insisted on a key message: lose the fear of using AI.
You don't need to be an engineer to start integrating it into daily work. “Open a tab with GPT next to you and use it as your copilot,” he encouraged. “It's not the top 10% in anything, but it knows more than the average in almost everything.”

The challenge, however, is to use AI with critical judgment. Understanding that results are not always deterministic, that responses can vary, and that the human role remains to direct, question, and decide. Making informed decisions based on data, considering professional experience, and also occasionally trusting intuition.

AI as an advantage... or as a requirement

“Using AI is no longer a competitive advantage, it's a matter of survival,” Manu stated.
In a market where competitors using AI launch four features while others launch one, not adapting means losing ground.

Therefore, he encouraged everyone working in product to ask themselves:

  • What processes can I accelerate or automate with AI?
  • Where can I apply it to improve the user experience?
  • Am I leveraging its potential to make more informed decisions?

From theory to practice

After the presentation, the LAB attendees participated in a workshop to experience firsthand with prompts, workflows, and tools that allow integrating AI into the daily product routine.
The subsequent debate led to a shared conclusion: AI does not replace curiosity or human judgment: it multiplies them.

As Manu reminded: “Don't micromanage AI. Give it space to do its work, and learn to work with it as a copilot.”

Runroom LAB is a monthly in-person and free event.

You need to register to reserve your spot.

Now also in Streaming!

If you can't join us in person, you can follow the first part of the LAB via streaming.
The practical part (with demos or workshops), the debate, and the networking will be held only in person.
