Hospital Sant Joan de Déu is one of the leading maternal and child hospitals in Europe and a reference center for innovation and research. The hospital needed a new online presence to offer healthcare services to its patients in the global digital environment. We developed a new portal centered on its patients.

Founded in 1867, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu needed to convey online the values it has cherished since its inception: hospitality, quality, respect, responsibility, and spirituality. At the same time, its main objective was the internationalization of its services, crossing linguistic and cultural borders, to offer advances in maternal and child medicine to countries that currently lack cutting-edge infrastructure and resources in this sector. Consequently, it aimed to expand its business volume and market share, reaching new audiences and new countries.
This project gave us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a new sector for Runroom, with an added emotional component, as it involves services aimed at the most vulnerable groups in hospitals: pregnant women, children, and adolescents.
The assignment posed several exciting challenges for us:
- to deeply understand the reality of the center from all perspectives and voices involved;
- to organize and align the knowledge and needs of the more than 1,800 professionals working at the center;
- to organize the complex structural model of the care units.
- to accompany in the digital transformation an organization that is part of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, which strives to keep its principles and values alive since 1500.
With the team of We Question Our Project, we established a framework to integrate their Design Service services with the patient-centric strategy and digital development services offered by Runroom. We worked with patients, families, doctors, nurses, assistants, administrative staff, executives, etc., to identify real needs and translate solutions into the new digital platform.

Thanks to Agile processes of incremental iterative work, we managed to ensure continuous delivery of the most important functionalities for the client with the aim of launching the platform within the indicated timelines and continuously implementing new functionalities.
It is a very dynamic and enriching project that allowed us to get to know a maternal and child hospital from the inside and delve into its reality, which encompasses a wide range of emotional nuances, from highly dramatic situations to the most magical, such as the passionate dedication of the volunteers of the “Hospital Amic” program or the space-themed MRI room.
